William's love for construction began in high school by taking courses in construction and metalworking during his Sophomore, Junior and Senior years. Upon graduating from high school, he enlisted in the US Navy Seabees, the construction force of the Navy. William planned and worked on projects in Okinawa and Sasebo Japan, led crews in Guantanamo Bay Cuba, placed over a 1000 cubic yards of concrete in Roosevelt Roads Puerto Rico in 3-month time period, and led an Engineering Department in the rebuilding of an infrastructure for a province in Afghanistan amongst several other projects and various countries around the world. During his time in the military he took many courses in personal, hazardous material, and construction safety. It all led him to a training job at his last duty station before retirement where he built the command’s training platform utilizing Navy Standard Operating Procedures. His leadership, knowledge, and devotion were recognized by the Commanding Officer upon his retirement after 20 years as he received the Navy Commendation Medal for his achievements.
